I mainly upload videos that I've shot or edited over the past 25 years or so. As of April 2024 I'm starting to look through some old videotapes of early things I shot or recorded - some low budget studio commercials, some audio recordings of bands in Edinburgh, just a mixture really in case it's of any interest to someone out there!
Quite a few of the older videos were created in PAL 4:3 aspect ratio, but cropped top and bottom to a picture aspect ratio of 16:9 within the 4:3 frame. I've upscaled these to 720/50P widescreen keeping the correct aspect ratio of the 4:3 original in the centre, but this does result in cropping at top and sides. I could have filled the frame with the 16:9 picture, but I suspect quality would have suffered too much.

Sony Digital Cinematography (from VHS copy!)
I found a copy of 'Sony Digital Cinematography' on VHS which must be at least 25 years old now, and I've upscaled it to 720/50P (for internet viewing) and uploaded it in case it's of any interest as to how Sony viewed things back then. Remember that this was when standard definition Digibeta camcorders came out, and interlaced scanning was the only option (in camera)!
The fact that they had to promote 'Digital Cinematography' on VHS format seems crazy these days, but there were few alternatives back then.

Picardy Television 'Karting Kapers' - staff clients karting night, captured from an old VHS copy. A lot of drop out and blank frames, but it is what it is! Upscaled to 720/50P for internet viewing. Don't know the date, but I'd guess 1997-1998? Maybe see some familiar faces from when we were all young!

Bahlsen Choco Leibniz commercial 1999. The 'biscuit' was appx. 5cm x 7.5cm and made from plastic. Moves for biscuit and box shot with travelling matte on video rostrum (motion control), attached to glass plate. A quick flash of the clock at start for details. Not the most exciting commercial, but they're still in the shops!

A piece (and some good nutritional advice!) from one of George Cathro's 'TV Slimmers' programmes for BBC Scotland. Featuring Paul Wilson as the doting father trying to keep his family away from the evils of deep fried Mars Bars, square sausage, and the like. Shot in Picardy Television studio in Edinburgh around late 90's I think. Upscaled to 720/50P for UA-cam viewing.

Dobbies (garden centre near Edinburgh) Christmas commercial. Lots of products to be composited, so shot with foreground and matte, some with movement and travelling matte - even the Christmas tree! Hours of fun in the Picardy Television studio in Edinburgh.

'Ceol Na Fidhle' title sequence, and couple violin shots from the camera tape. Another early (for me) bit of broadcast TV which I contributed to - shots of a violin rotating and close-ups for use in a programme title sequence. A violin is a really beautiful thing to have the opportunity to light and film. Shot at Picardy Television in Edinburgh, probably 1995-1996

I'm not into tributes and as a vocalist of a band that supported SHAB in early 80s this was EXCELLENT the vocalist looks and sounds like Alex

Very good, but i have to say that vambo was kinda dissapointing here because the synthesizer sound was so cool sounding in the original live version and also that fat base sound was totally absent because of the unnecessarly loud guitar with stupid echo effect on.

Agreed, band sounds good and the vocalist is awesome but. The whole dressing up thing is a joke. Doesn’t work for guys of your age.
Face it- they sucked so bad, everyone has to call them "genius." They were just sucked.
I was lucky enough to see The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. They opened for Jethro Tull 1975. I had never heard of them. But, they totally blew me away. And a couple days later whoke at the record store. There it was The Sensational Alex Harvey Band Live album. I scooped it up and put it on. It was pretty much the samevshow I had just seen. Now, I've collected pretty much all of their albums plus some bootlegs. THEY CALL ME THE MIDNIGHT MOSES. EVERYTHING I TOUCH IS COMING UP ROSES !!!

Reliving my youth - and SAHB at the Edinburgh Uni in around 72 after which I went deaf in my left ear having been next to the speakers - in any SAHB gig you felt alive - sensational for sure. Life then was all about the anticipation - no TV gigs (sometimes OGWT), no internet, no local Perth concerts - no instant gratification - just glorius live memorable gigs I once in I think '69 hitchiked to the Usher Hall in Edinburgh and waited at the stage door for Ten Years After and ended up as a rodie for the night, collecting the frisbies from the tiers with Alvin Lee & Co seeing how far they could throw them. We walked soooo far towards Perth on the way home before getting a lift.
I saw the Alex Harvey Band in all their glory perform at Jazz Bilzen, and they were great! So much better than Kiss, if you ask me...

The first SAHB song I heard was "There's no lights on the Christmas tree mother they;re burning big Louie tonight" after that I was hooked. I had seen Tear Gas several times in Buckhaven Miners Welfare in the late 60's probably and knew that they were a good live band but this took them to a different level. Rip Alex you are sorely missed.

Bon Scott sounds an awful lot like Alex... Angus sounds an awful lot like Zal... I know I am not the first to notice this...
I am 53 and consider myself very knowledgeable about popular music for at least the last 100 years. I only just a couple weeks ago found Alex and think that he was indeed sensational, and his band, all heavy hitters. I went from feeling like "Where has this been all my life" to.... "Thank goodness I found this Man".... To think I might have completely missed this....

I grew up in Corby aka Little Scotland and discovered SAHB Framed in our local record store when it first came out when home from Uni. I was hooked from the start. I'd been aware of Alex from a couple of his earlier solo albums, but SAHB were just something else, truly sensational. I still put the albums on the turntable regularly.

It;s funny but the two words I saw used in conjunction with hearing SAHB play live back then were 'charisma' and 'menace'. After watching some of these old videos, I tend to agree with that assessment, Charisma and Menace indeed!
Why did they skip Rock Workshop. That was the band Alex was in before SAHB. They released an good album in 1970.

I was too young to see SAHB back in the day (born 1970) but saw this line up in the mid 2000's. Max did a fine job replacing the irreplaceable- may he rest in power.

I just found this band at 56 and I’m mind blown and so angry I missed them all these years. I’m playing catch up an$ loving the hell out of discovering this unreal talent. That lead guitarist is spectacular too.
I have a similar story. Growing up in the 80's, my local Rock stations would occasionally play "Faith Healer" and "Snakebite", but I didn't know who the band was. Late one night around '95 I heard their version of "Next", but I still didn't know SAHB's name. I thought it was AC/DC. (Bon Scott's vocal style was influenced by Alex Harvey). That song haunted me for 25 years until I discovered the name of the band. Now I have all of their albums on listening rotation.
